How to Remove Bad Habits and Addictions Forever (3 Step Process for Success)

Addictions come in all shapes and sizes and can come through many different avenues.

They can come through food, technology, and even thought-based “habits”.

Addictions and bad habits are intimately tied in with our sensory system as humans.

Our senses become excited, and we gain access to neuro-chemical “rewards”.

The question is, what habits are fueling us and rewarding us in positive ways, and what habits are overstimulating us and creating negative traits of character and flaws in focus?

There is a natural reward system in our brains that is meant to reward us for when we are performing optimally.

When we succeed in a hunt, for example.

Or accomplish a task that leads us further in our lives.

In these moments we are influenced to do more of these kinds of tasks in order to further progress in our lives.

This is how our operating system has been shaped and designed to function.

In the modern world, the story is a little different.

We are surrounded by things that would never exist in nature and that our biology would not be exposed to.

Endless junk food, technology, media, cigarettes, and other forms of indulgence are able to be acquired and consumed in an instant.

In order to achieve our potential, we are demanded to become disciplined and aware of our surroundings.

We are demanded to be vanguards of our nervous system and to become “sober” in an overly-indulged world.

To be protectors and guardians of our brains, and the entire web of neural activity within our bodies.

The items available to us in this mainstream society are items that can easily overstimulate the nervous system.

This overstimulation leads to complacency and acceptance of sub-par living conditions, quality of bonds, and standards of communication.

It drives the degradation of society and influences lackadaisical codes of conduct and character.

It sways individuals integrity and establishes dishonorable value systems.

An addicted mind is an untrustworthy mind.

This article will describe a process that one can utilize in order to redeem themselves and connect to what is real within them.

This is what is needed in order to achieve and unlock one’s potential, to change genetic expression, and to live life while being alive.

                                       The Process

1. Abstinence

The first thing to do when removing negative habits or addictions is to first identify what the habits or addictions are.

Once there is a clear comprehension of the habit and behavior is, then the first step in this process is to abstain from it completely.

This duration of the abstinence depends fully on what the behavior or addiction is.

There are some things that are natural to a human being such as having sex, eating, and in-joying other naturally stimulating activity.

These things enhance a human beings experience of life when they are placed and acted upon in a natural context.

When they are overly-indulged, they become problems and contribute to jumbled wiring within one’s nervous system.

The other end of the spectrum are things found in society that are not natural and would not be consumed in a natural setting.

This category of intoxicants and consumables should be looked at with a critical eye, as they have the possibility to do the most damage to a human beings nervous system.

Drugs, artificial flavorings, intense sweetners, and so on are all within this category.

Comfort-inducing behaviors are also another thing to pay attention to when identifying “that which does not serve”.

In today’s world, many flock to habits that give them “comfort”.

In reality, these are often habits that one utilizes to run away from reality and sedate oneself to be “ok” with how life is.

What is natural, and what is unnatural?

How does this contribute to your well-being?

Some guidelines when identifying bad habits and addictions:

  • If you are considering that something would be good to take a “leave of absence” from - that is a sign that the answer is “yes”.
  • If something is continuously causing turbulence, confusion, mistrust, or negative scenarios - take a break from it.
  • If something is causing mistrust in a group setting, chances are taking a break from it to recalibrate and comprehend what is happening is a good choice. This is balanced after a break has been taken and one can come to clear conclusions on whether or not the thing is positive or stems from stubborn ego-based thinking. Seek connection and comprehension from those around you.

2. Connection

The second part of this process is connection.

The primary driver for addictions is a lack of purpose and connection to one’s inner light.

The inner light is our connection to source, and is what guides us in every decision we are making.

This guidance allows us to express our most potent and vulnerable forms.

If one was connected to their purpose and light within, they would not participate in self-destructive habits.

Self-destructive habits are a sign that there is a blind spot within one’s operating system.

A disconnection.

A misplacement of some kind.

Taking time to build one’s connection to their inner light and establish their sense of purpose in life is the best safeguard against self-destructive behaviors of any kind.

This connection (+ action taking in accordance with it) is what builds one’s self-esteem and identity on firm foundations.

When one begins to in-joy their life, self-destructive behaviors are seen for what they are: deceptions, distractions, and empty “thrills”.

This process of establishing connection can take time, though consist effort is the driver of this part of the process.

Abstain from that which detracts, and connect to that which adds and moves one in a positive direction.

Some practices that can help one cultivate connection are:

  1. Solitude
  2. Meditation
  3. Contemplation
  4. Nature
  5. Connection with others
  6. Breath-work

3. Replacement

Once one becomes abstinent and begins to cultivate the connection to their inner light, the next step is to begin to build habits that honors oneself.

This means to take action in accordance with one’s inner-light that replace the habits and behaviors that one is being abstinent from.

These “new” behaviors are any kind of behaviors that aid in achieving greater states of emotional, physical, or spiritual health on a long-term basis.

This could be exercise, choosing healthy food, regular meditation, regular nature time, or having an immediate practices one can turn to.

This may also take form by having a conversation with someone that one desires to speak with on a deeper and more real level.

Discipline exercises such as 3-10 day (+) water fasts are also great for recalibrating the nervous system, connecting with one’s inner light, and cleansing the physical vessel.

Habits such as taking cold showers, retiring and rising with the sun, yoga, and other discipline practices have proven to be especially useful.

Action-Based Quick Guide
* Act in ways that honor one’s inner light
* Remove “comfort” - embrace discipline and connection

In the context of drug dependency and removal
1. Cease all drug intake
2. Focus on building habits that build up oneself
3. Seek support

                               Building Defenses

When one is removing negative “coping” strategies one will inevitably bump into all the irrationalities one has employed upon themselves as to why they “ought” to maintain the negative habit.

When these thoughts and temptations arise, it pays well to know exactly why one is choosing to carve a new path for themselves (literally in their brain and nervous system).

These clear reasons, once integrated, make the process far easier

The exercise below is how one can build a automatic defense protocol that arises the moment any kind of tempting thought enters into one’s mind.

When relinquishing oneself from addictions - the goal is to refrain from the behavior for the long-haul.

The most trying part is the first week to several weeks.

Once one makes it past these time frames, one typically finds themselves “out of the woods” and in clear pasture with clarity of mind and thought.

Depending on the nature of the addictions or habits, one will have to hold steadfast to their reasons and clarity as they rewire themselves.

The guide here is designed to aid one in building up that defense protocol, the fortress within, so that one becomes impermeable to weak victim-based consciousness that may arise within oneself.

1. Think about all the ways this addiction negatively impacts your life: How does it affect your mood? What emotions does it conjure inside of you? Who do you disappoint when you give into this temptation? What is your life going to look like if you continually give into this addiction? How does this addiction impact your connection to your life’s work and passions?

2. Think about all the ways you would benefit from moving beyond this addiction (feel the light): Feel what it feels like when you choose to forgo this addiction. What happens and how do you feel then? What would happen if you were to give up this addiction completely? How would it impact your ability to be a better provider for yourself and those you care about? How would it impact your ability to grow and pursue paths of development? What would you look like if you chose to pursue those paths every day?

3. Engrain that into your soul: This will provide a clear path to defeating any doubts that arise or self-loathing nonsense that one may feel.

4. Remember: At any point where temptation arises - remind yourself of the life you are choosing to live and continue on that path until the addiction no longer has any temptation or hold on your mind. Through this process inherent self-esteem will build naturally as one comes into the light of awareness.

5. (Bonus) Create an inner alarm system: Once one’s fortress has been built, the next step is to meditate on all the reasons why one is choosing to go a new direction. To feel the emotions that one is excited about for the new way they are choosing to go. Once this is done, we now want to ensure that temptation has no ability to grain traction. This is done by installing an inner alarm system that automatically starts the moment a thought arises that would otherwise feel “tempting”.

  • This is more of a magical technique, where one can mentally practice automatically erecting the fortress of reasons that one has come to see , the moment a thought arises that would attempt to steer them into old ways and old habits.
  • Through meditating on this and simulating it - one is creating new neural pathways that act as a anti-virus system that automatically discards and rejects thoughts from entering one’s conscious mind that would misguide one from the path they have chosen.
  • Meditating on this and utilizing this technique can be extremely powerful in anchoring in one’s authentic will and devotion to the path they see as better for themselves.

                                          Reminders

1. Don’t Doubt:

Many people have doubts on if they can really make a life for themselves that they would be proud of and in-joy if they were to stop indulging in whatever they are indulging in (porn, video-games, ice-cream, whatever).

These doubts are objectively wrong.

At any point someone can turn their life around and begin to live a life that attracts more positive engagements, experiences, and mends the friendships and relationships with those around them.

To start today is to honor that path and have faith in one’s inner light.

Acting today, in accordance with what one knows is good for oneself, will always lead to positive results and outcomes.

Over periods of time this causes massive changes.

2. Practice:

The practice of logically reducing these worries and fears to reveal that they have an “empty hand” is a continuous habit that one builds up.

Over time, one gains more and more sovereignty of mind.

This then becomes more and more defined in one’s conscious experience of life through their emotional system, quality of thoughts, and quality of connections with others.

Connecting to one’s inner light will guide one home.

                                              Closing

That’s it for this one!

We are capable of installing new habits that aid in excelling us along our path and connecting us more and more with our inner light.

The truth is we are sovereign beings - and we claim that sovereignty through the power of our choice, our will, and our decisive actions.

We have the power as individuals.

We are the captains of our selves.

AHO!
